Vision

To See This Generation Transformed And Mobilized Into Their God Given Destiny

We are hungry for God to break through in our lives and in the lives of those we meet. We seek to be innovative and on the cutting edge of new initiatives using new ways to communicate the same message of hope. We are committed in communicating this life-changing message in a way that is both culturally relevant and easily understood. Besides a local focus in Sydney we regularly send teams overseas, reaching out to the youth of other nations.

Sydney is home to many nationalities and religions and is one of the most multicultural cities in the world. We believe that God is going to use Sydney as a springboard to see many nations reached.

We believe people from all over the world will not only come to Sydney for tourism, but also to meet God, experience Him in a way that changes their life and inspires them to go back to their own nations and make Him known. We want to see revival and transformation take place within people’s lives starting in Sydney!

Our goal is to be the light of God and serve the people of Sydney. We can see Australia become a Christian nation again, by letting our lights shine.

History

The journey of the Island Breeze Sydney YWAM base is one full of faith and God’s providence. Since the 1April 2007, God has begun to rise up this base for mighty works, for reaching the nations and its indigenous peoples.  Sydney has been called “the gateway” in and out of the nations and God has strategically reestablished the presence of a faithful YWAM base in this area. Hebrews 11:1 declares, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”  Island Breeze Sydney’s story has firm roots in this truth, which God has placed in its leaders.  If not for their willingness to put trust in God’s providence and devote their lives to prayer and good works, the base would not be.

It started as a feeling in 2006 that God was prompting Etienne Pieterse and his family to move to Sydney to pioneer the rebirth of a YWAM base there, after a previous base closed.  In March of 2007, Etienne with his wife, Tania and their children Elisha and Chloë packed up their car and drove to Sydney without a place to stay, only with the assurance that God had called them there. When the first team arrived in Sydney to help pioneer the revived base, their first task was to build the beds in which they would be sleeping at a house acquired that very same day.  After the trip, the seasoned leader called it “the best outreach they ever had.”  They were a part of a moving, as all visitors to the Island Breeze Sydney base are.

May of 2007 kicked off ten days of prayer at the base.  Through this time, God began to shape the atmosphere of the base.  The team could feel God beginning to move, shaping their ministries and the very land around them.  To those they’ve ministered to, God has brought healing, revival and salvation.  In those first two months, they saw over 30 people give their lives to the Lord.  In September 2007, they held their first Discipleship Training School with 7 students from 6 different nations.  They are continuing that theme with more multi-cultural DTS’s.  The base also offers a transformational leadership school and a school of creative arts.  God is also growing their staff, from only five in the beginning to more than three times that number in a few months and it is still growing.

Currently, Island Breeze Sydney has many exciting ministries opportunities, including a children’s ministry, an indigenous ministry and a performing arts ministry.  “The Way” is Island Breeze Sydney’s evangelical ministry, reaching out to people of all cultures and interests. “His Dwelling Place” is an exciting prayer and intercessory ministry lifting up Sydney and the nations.

God is definitely moving in the people and ministries of Island Breeze Sydney.  “Young people come and they are transformed and mobilized into their God-given destiny,” states Etienne Pieterse.  “We want everyone to hear the Gospel.”  With this purpose and mind, the people of Island Breeze Sydney will continue to move forward with faith in God and expectancy of His guidance.
